Jeff's Quick Stop

For those customers who have called and spoken with me over the phone, it doesn't take long to figure out .....we're from the south))) My husband and I have lived in the south our entire lives. If you've never lived in the country or never visited a small country store, you have missed out on a unique experience. I'm writing this post because "our" little country store is closing and the building is being torn down.
Jeff's Quick Stop has been in business for many years, and many many years before it was Jeff's. It was always a handy little place to my husband to fill my Jeep up with gas. Bless his heart....before I retired and was driving from town to town everyday to see my patients.....he would take my Jeep down to Jeff's about every other day and fill it up with gas. One of the girls working there told him one day.....man, she sure does drive a lot! I'll miss being able to make it home on "empty" now that I won't have the security of knowing that we could always make it to Jeff's to fill up! You know how much gas it takes to keep a teenager on the road....well our daughter drove a little red mustang her senior of high school and to college. She would fill up her car and get something to eat at Jeff's on a regular basis. One day she had needed cash for something special and I had forgotten to leave her any. When she came in that night I told her I had forgotten to leave her some money. She said......"oh, that's okay....I got some from Jeff." I think she could have gone in and asked for $500 and he would have given it to her))) Course, guess he knew we'd come pay him back too))) Our grandchildren are really sad Jeff's is closing. A standard treat on most every visit is a trip down to Jeff's for a soft drink and candy. I can't count the number of times I've heard...."can we go to Jeff's??" This has mostly been my husband treat for the grands....the ride in Pop's truck to Jeff's and coming back with 5,000 calories of candy and drinks! Somehow it's just not the same as stopping by the grocery store or Wal-Mart and getting the same items.....certainly the selection isn't nearly anywhere close to a convenience store in town......but you ask A.J. and Maggie which place they had rather go to......I guarantee you it would be Jeff's. There is an article on the website "The Old Country Store" written by Steve Maze of Arab, Alabama. It's a pleasant trip back into the golden years of the country store. Read it when you get a chance, you'll enjoy it.
